[E13-781] Formed in the Fall of 1861, the company's members were mostly from Lee, Springfield, Topsfield, Enfield, Prentiss, and contiguous towns in the upper Penobscot region of Maine. Mustered into the Union Army on October 19, 1861, the Company saw action throughout the Civil War, including at Deep Run, Hatcher's Run, Bermuda Hundred, and Deep Bottom. The authors put together a fine, interesting, and somewhat detailed history of the Company's involvement in the war, and included some biographical sketches and a roster of those who served in Company D.
