A "geração da virada" leva esse nome não só por haver surgido na passagem do século e do milênio com também pela liberdade com que transita dentro e fora do mercado e das instituições. São artistas que agem tanto individual como coletivamente, usam e abusam das mídias mais variadas, fundindo-as umas às outras ou retomam expressões clássicas, como a pintura, para reinventá-las.
