Clark led a fast attack carrier task force in the Pacific from his flagship the USS Hornet. In Korea he served as the 7th Fleet Commander. A 1918 graduate of the Naval Academy, Clark retired from the Navy in 1953. The book has a signed dedication dated 26 May 1968 from the author to Bill Schwendler. Schewendler was one of the founders, chief engineer, executive vice-president and eventual Chairman of the Board of the Grumman Corporation. Schwendler led the enginnering team that designed designed and built the F4F Wildcat, the F6F Hellcat and the TBF Avenger all US Navy carrier aircraft used in the Pacific War. Very good copy of the first edition in a good+ dust jacket. The dust jacket has minor edge wear and a slightly sun darkened spine. 333 pages. Inscribed by Author(s).

McCain, Jr. (1911-1981) served in the United States Navy for 45 years. He was the son of Admiral John S. McCain, Sr., a four-star admiral who commanded South Pacific aircraft operations in World War II, and the father of Senator John McCain. During the Vietnam War, Admiral McCain was Commander-in-Chief of all U.S. forces in the Vietnam theater and an ardent supporter of the Vietnamization policy of President Nixon. McCain retired in 1972 and died of a heart attack in 1981. He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.

Clark served aboard the USS Ossipee during the Civil War and participated in the Battle of Mobile Bay. After serving on a number of vessels, Clark was promoted to captain in 1896. As commander of the USS Oregon, he sailed from San Francisco to Florida when the war with Spain began in 1898. Clark and his crew sailed over 14,000 miles to meet the American fleet in Cuban waters, which emphasized the need for the Panama Canal to make the trip from coast to coast more efficient.

Admiral Clark, a native of Oklahoma, was a member of the Cherokee tribe. He was the first Native American to graduate from the United States Naval Academy, in 1917. He was a decorated commander of aircraft carriers during World War II. During the Korean War, he commanded the Fast Carrier Task Force (TF 77), and later, as Vice Admiral, the entire 7th Fleet.
