Laduchesse d'Abrantès, endettée comme toujours, désirecéder quelquesprécieux tableaux au Louvre, mais seuls deux ont été retenus par Vivant Denon. Il s'agit de La Pentecôte, par Guido Reni(dit Le Guide) et de Saint-Félix, du Guerchin. "[.] On m'apprend qu'il n'y a que ces deux tableaux qui conviennent à la Gallerie du Roi, et que M. Denon qui a été consulté en a fixé le prix à cinquante mille francs quoique je dusse espérer d'après l'opinion des artistes qui les ont vus, d'en obtenir un prix beaucoup plus considérable. Je consents [sic] puisque c'est pour le muséum de Sa Majesté de les donner pour cinquante mille francs [.]". Elle demande à son correspondant de faire payer cette somme à son beau frère M. de Geouffre.
