The poem also contained criticism of priests and lawyers. Consequently the authorities tried to suppress the book, and Waldo Sabine was charged with publishing an obscene libel and was fined £500 at Leeds Assizes. [ref. page 92 of A. Craig: The Banned Books of England. Allen & Unwin. 1962.] *** Full name: William Henry Waldo Sabine; author, historian and writer on parapsychological subjects; born April 2, 1903, Birkenhead, England. Educated in private schools, emigrated to the United States in 1947. Before leaving England, Sabine taught at schools in Middlesex and London. In the United States he worked as an author, editor, and book dealer from 1947 onwards, and he completed a number of books on American and European history. He stated that he had a number of spontaneous PSI experiences, mostly of a precognitive kind, some of which he recorded in his book Second Sight in Daily Life (1949). He died July 13, 1994.***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.***.

Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. 2nd Edition. Something of a curiosity - a schoolgirl diary edited (and probably written) by Waldo Sabine, later and better known as author of books on American history. Second edition (1,000 copies) from October 1930 following 500 of the 1st, produced in February. Privately published by Sabine in Harrogate, though some copies of this edition state London. The true name of the school involved, Queen Ethelburga's School Harrogate, has been written in red ink to the text at the first mention of its pseudonym, "St.Mona's School, Sparrington". Apparently this is common to many copies so is presumably the work of Sabine himself. Stock toned with some foxing to earlier pages. Blue boards marked and worn. 12mo. 122pp.

Half title. Orig. plain blue cloth, spine lettered in gilt. v.g. A rather odd anonymously written pseudo-diary - apparently issued in revenge for some disagreement between the author and Queen Ethelburga's School, Harrogate. The true identity of the school has been added in red ink in the foreword; this seems to be the case in all copies. The diary follows a school year, concerning itself with the love lives of various schoolmates, and the often amusing minutiae of minor public school life.
