The extensive body of paintings and drawings by Ilse D'Hollander (1968-1997) has rarely been shown since her sudden death in 1997. This monograph highlights both her person and her work, with images of some 120 paintings. Ilse D? Hollander's paintings are the result of a personal search for the medium of painting. Through careful observation of her immediate surroundings, D? Hollander created compositions of areas of color and lines, vibrating shapes and transparent overpaintings. Visual elements from the landscape, such as a branch, house or road, are converted into a more abstract form language that varies between recognizable, suggestive, determined and more poetic.
