The travelogues in this volume describe the cities, ancient ruins, and the lives of those living in the former heart of the empire. The author highlights the transformation of once-great cities like Bologna, Rome, Florence, and Venice in the centuries following the fall of the Roman Empire. Descriptions of the grandeur of ancient ruins are interwoven with observations on society and politics in the 17th century, revealing the ongoing dialogue between the past and present, preservation and destruction. This book is an engaging journey through the history and culture of Italy showcasing the enduring influence of the Roman Empire on European civilization. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Add to basketErste erweiterte, frühe (2.) deutsche Ausgabe des schönen, reich illustrierten französ. Tafelwerks.
