Add to basketCondition: Very good. Richard Waldrep--stamp illustrator (illustrator). Format is approximately 7.5 inches by 4.25 inches. The authorized gold stamp replica preserved in this cover is produced under a non-exclusive licensing agreement with the United States Postal Service. Stamp design is the copyright of the U.S. Postal Service. Cover design is the copyright of the Postal Commemorative Society. These statement are on the back of the envelop, along with a Celebrating the Century design and the U.S. Postal Service logo and statement that this is an Official Licensed Product. The front of the cover has a First Day of Issue cancelation of the President Theodore Roosevelt 32 cent stamp and a Celebrate the Century imprint below the stamp. On the left side there is a golden depiction of part of the Seal of the United States above a framed presentation of a golden version of the U.S. Postal Service stamp. This golden version is on a stiff card within the envelop. A portion of the front of the envelop is open so that the golden stamp is visible. There is also a stiff card associated with this First Day of Issue cover as part of the Celebrate the Century series. This has text on only one side which has information about the stamp, but mostly has summary information on President Theodore Roosevelt. PCS was founded as the Postal Commemorative Society in 1970, thanks to the success of the Moon Landing First Day Cover. Since then, PCS has offered a wide variety of First Day Covers and mint-condition stamps to customers. Collecting is a basic human instinct. Reasons for collecting include pride of ownership, increasing one's knowledge (learning through the stunning designs and artwork), personal pleasure, and the feeling of achievement upon completing a collection, knowing you are one of a small fraction of Americans who can make that claim. Celebrate the Century is the name of a series of postage stamps made by the United States Postal Service featuring images recalling various important events in the 20th century in the United States. Ten of these sheets were issued, with each sheet depicting events of one decade of the 20th century, from the 1900s to 1990s. Fifteen stamps were embedded into each sheet. For the first eight sheets (1900s to 1970s) of the fifteen stamps, one stamp of each sheet was printed using the intaglio process, while the remaining fourteen were offset printed along with the rest of the sheet. All the sheets were printed by the Ashton-Potter USA printing company. The stamp images for the first five sheets were selected by Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee and those for the remaining five sheets were selected by a nationwide poll. As noted above, the Postal Commemorative Society produced under a non-exclusive license First Day Covers that also included a golden replica of the issued stamp. Envelope--First Day of Issue Cover with associated text Presumed First Edition, First issue thus.

The center insert is on The Moon Landing 20th Anniversary and has a substantial center text above a color image of the moon and a representation of the first day of issue stamp of the moon landing. The third panel is against another backdrop of a spacesuited astronaut on the moon facing the American Flag. There is a first day cover of The First Man on the Moon cover, a Fort Bliss centenary stamp with a rocket being launched, a Project Mercury Stamp, a Robert H. Goddard stamp, and Apollo 8 stamp, a two stamp Spacewalk stamp, and a Communications for Peach Echo 1 stamp. As issued, this folio included every U.S. space stamp ever issued, including the then new U.S. Priority Mail Moon Landing stamp. PCS was founded as the Postal Commemorative Society in 1970, thanks to the success of the Moon Landing First Day Cover. Since then, PCS has offered a variety of First Day Covers and mint-condition stamps to customers. On July 20, 1969, American astronauts Neil Armstrong (1930-2012) and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin (1930-) became the first humans ever to land on the moon. About six-and-a-half hours later, Armstrong became the first person to walk on the moon. As he took his first step, Armstrong famously said, "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." The Apollo 11 mission occurred eight years after President John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) announced a national goal of landing a man on the moon by the end of the 1960s. Apollo 17, the final manned moon mission, took place in 1972. With the advent of robotic and human spaceflight a new era of American history had presented itself. Keeping with the tradition of honoring the country's history on U.S. postage stamps, the U.S. Post Office began commemorating the various events with its commemorative postage stamp issues. The first U.S. Postage issue to depict a U.S. space vehicle was issued in 1948, the Fort Bliss issue. The first issue to commemorate a space project by name was the ECHO I communications satellite commemorative issue of 1960. Next was the Project Mercury issue of 1962. As U.S. space exploration progressed a variety of other commemorative issues followed, many of which bear accurate depictions of satellites, space capsules, Apollo Lunar Modules, space suits, and other items of interest. The history of space exploration is a nationally popular topic, as evidenced by numbers of First-Day covers for postage stamps with space themes. As the advent of U.S. space exploration grew, so did the topic of space exploration on stamps. Presumed First Edition, First issuance of this compilation.
