Condition: Paperback in new condition. Foreword by Goncalo Tavares; Translated by William Garvin; 178 pages. Following a similar tragectory of his more detailed From Modernity to Cosmodernity, The Hidden Third presents similar conclusions in short declarative states covering thirteen conceptual categories Levels of Reality, Reason, Meaning, The Quantum Poetic to God, Life / Death and I. Although not in verse form, the French title of the book was Théorémes Poétiques."Where does modern science stand in the essential poetic enterprise? Himself a high-level particle physicist, Nicolescu reports the present crisis of the hard sciences: the demand, as he puts it, for an 'ontological opening,' a recognition of being" - David Appelbaum in Parabola Magazine review.
Contains "With Visible Breath" by Joseph Bruchac - Sacred powers in Native American traditions; "A Theater That Transforms Us" by William A. McIntosh - Giving drama to a teaching; "The Milk of Miracles" by Eliezer Shore - The inner meaning of miraculous stories; "Compassion's Flower" - An Interview with Orgyen Kusum Lingpa; "Participants in Mystery" by S. Siegel - Searching for a new relation to disease; "In the Valley of Astonishment" - An Interview with Basarab Nicolescu, by Jean Biès; "Two Poems" by Denise Levertov; "Climbing to Christmas" by Marvin Barrett - One man's journey to a miracle; 128 pages. Hardcover. Condition: As New. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good+. First Edition. An incisive study by a contemporary scientist and scholar of the startling correspondences between the ideas of modern quantum physics and the cosmology of Jacob Boehme, an early 17th-century Christian mystic. Basarab Nicolescu presents both these mysterious realms - the open-ended universe of the new particle physics and the theological speculations of Boehme's own writings in a way that is at once sophisticated and accessible.

Paperback. Condition: New. Offers a new paradigm of reality, based on the interaction between science, culture, spirituality, religion, and society. The quantum, biological, and information revolutions of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries should have thoroughly changed our view of reality, yet the old viewpoint based on classical science remains dominant, reinforcing a notion of a rational, mechanistic world that allows for endless progress. In practice, this view has promoted much violence among humans. Basarab Nicolescu heralds a new era, cosmodernity, founded on a contemporary vision of the interaction between science, culture, spirituality, religion, and society. Here, reality is plastic and its people are active participants in the cosmos, and the world is simultaneously knowable and unknowable. Ultimately, every human recognizes his or her face in the face of every other human being, independent of his or her particular religious or philosophical beliefs. Nicolescu notes a new spirituality free of dogmas and looks at quantum physics, literature, theater, and art to reveal the emergence of a newer, cosmodern consciousness.

Condition: Paperback in new condition. 280 pages. I am calling this Fourth Way related though it has very little direct reference to Gurdjieff's ideas or students. However, the author has been a student of the Gurdjieff ideas and there are many correspondences in the ideas of the book and Gurdjieff's ideas. Such as, the law of seven and its intervals (the gap allows the intervention of consciousness) and the law of three ("The Hidden Third") presented here through the ideas of Jacob Boehme, levels of being or consciousness, significance of the verticality of man, reciprocal maintenance, and on. He includes a chapter on the theater of Peter Brook to present a perspective on the living dynamic exchange of energy, movement and interrelations.Basarab Nicolescu argues that quantum, biological, and information revolutions of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries should have thoroughly changed our view of reality, yet the old viewpoint based on classical science remains dominant, reinforcing a notion of a rational, mechanistic world that allows for endless progress.
