She was a very influential writer, renowned for her piety , learning and sensibility, poetry was her passion and she composed from an early age . Her first published book was - Poems on Several Occasions, which first appeared in 1697 under the pseudonym Philomela. This publication brought her instant fame, her most famous work - Friendship in death first appeared in 1728 and went through many editions. For more details of Rowe see ODNB. Elizabeth Rowe [nee Singer] (1674-1737), English poet and novelist, was born in Somerset. At her request, her letters and manuscripts were edited, and posthumously published, by noted hymnographer Isaac Watts; they were first published in London in 1738, and in Boston in 1742, and widely reprinted.
