Edited by renowned photographer and climber Galen Rowell, it is a seminal anthology that documents the Golden Age of climbing in Yosemite Valley. It serves as a historical and artistic record of the first ascents of the park's iconic granite walls. Features a compilation of 17 personal accounts and articles written by the pioneers of Yosemite climbing. Features contributions from pioneering Yosemite climbers, including Yvon Chouinard, Royal Robbins, Warren Harding, Chuck Pratt, and Steve Roper. These narratives are paired with 131 photographs (16 in color), roughly half of which were captured by Rowell himself. This was Rowell?s first book, showcasing his philosophy of participatory photography?taking photos as an active climber rather than a detached observer. It includes his famed image, El Capitan Clearing Storm.
