See images for condition. About the book >.>.> This is the story of an historic building, the 'Amiriya in Rada', Yemen, which I first saw in 1978. On a second visit to Rada' in 1982, I noticed the marked deterioration in its appearance and felt that immediate and drastic measures were essential if the building were to remain standing. The unique and hybrid architectural style of the "Amiriya, its imposing size, and the extraordinary decoration of its interior spaces made its survival essential. The optimism with which the restoration project began was infectious, and before long there was a strong 'Amiriya lobby in San'a. The General Organisation of Antiquities, Museums, and Manuscripts (GOMM), for whom I worked as a con-sultant, was headed by a venerable scholar, the Qadi Isma'il al-Akwa', and he was enthusiastic about the undertaking. Having his support and backing guaranteed the success of the project. Qadi Isma'il al-Akwa' was the Yemeni minister most directly responsible for the conservation programme of the 'Amiri.
