Bound in blue buckram, with a gilt-lettered navy pigskin spine, top edge gilt, blue and white marbled endpapers; in a slipcase with titles to both large panels: showing overall rubbing and scuffing. With an introduction by his brother, A. W. Lawrence. Limited edition of 2000 copies, this… one marked "Presentation". Previous owner has noted "Presentation copy, formerly Marshall Sisson's; I bought this book from Blackwell's. on 23 October 1985.": claim not verified, but certainly reasonable, as the named architect once built a house for A. W. Lawrence, and also corresponded with Liddell Hart, Lawrence's biographer. (Clements pp. 38-39). This is the first English edition (limited issue - see O'Brien A172), published at approximately the same time (February, 1955) as the first English unlimited edition, and contains the partially expurgated text (by which is meant that 'objectionable' words have been omitted from the text, leaving blank spaces - the words were restored in the 1973 definitive edition).
