Original light blue printed wrappers bound into green linen cloth boards, preserving the original pamphlet. Gilt lettering to the spine. Signed and inscribed by the author to noted Sherlockian collector Lawrence P. Dodge on the verso of the title page: "To Laurence P. Dodge, with the author's compliments, Edgar Smith, 1/20/39." A classic work of Sherlockian scholarship by Edgar W. Smith, longtime leader of the Baker Street Irregulars and one of the most influential figures in twentieth-century Holmes studies. Appointment in Baker Street remains one of the cornerstone publications of American Sherlockiana. The present copy is especially desirable as an inscribed association copy presented by Smith to fellow Sherlockian Lawrence P. Dodge. Provenance: From the Sherlock Holmes collection of Lawrence P. Dodge, assembled beginning in the early 1930s and acquired directly from Dodge descendants. Part of a long-held Sherlockian library containing early Doyle editions and classic works of Holmes scholarship. Contents clean and unmarked. Original wrappers in exceptionally well-preserved condition. Binding remains sound and square. Signed and inscribed by the author on the verso of the title page. Boards with light rubbing to corners and spine head and tail. A Near FIne association copy of a scarce Sherlockian publication.
