Ed Hanson

Ed was born in Southern California in 1950 and grew up near San Bernardino, in the shadow of the rugged San Gabriel Mountains. In 1952 he contracted polio and went through years of physical therapy, finally regaining mobility. This affected his outlook on compassion and determination.

His early interests were in the physical sciences, primarily geology and chemistry, and became interested in metaphysics. While majoring in geology at Chaffey College, he began to spend a lot of time in the mountains and deserts of Southern California hiking, taking pictures, and collecting rocks. In 1981 he moved to the Mojave Desert near Victorville and lived there for ten years with his wife Maureen and their daughter, Terra. The desert and the mountains figure largely in his poetry.

In 1991 they moved to Colorado. While living in Denver, he became interested in the life of Native American cultures, which figured largely in his Crow Poetry series of chapbooks. After joining the Rosicrucian Order in 2005, his spiritual studies deepened and was reflected in his poetry. Ed was active in the Denver poetry community and was a longtime member of the state poetry society, Columbine Poets of Colorado, and attended many poetry readings.

Retiring from technical writing in 2016, Ed volunteered to serve on civic cultural boards to promote arts and music in local communities, while also serving as an officer of local Rosicrucian bodies.

In 2026 Ed moved to Spokane where he joined the local poetry community and published his most recent chapbook What the Crow Saw.
