Darlene Janson is the author of Resilient Heartbeats: Finding Hope, Healing, and the Strength to Move Forward After Losing Your Spouse. After a career in the medical field, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at sixty and later worked as a vocational rehabilitation counselor, helping individuals navigate life's most difficult transitions.
Darlene was married for thirty-two years to John, a proud U.S. Army veteran who served his country for twenty-two years, including service during the Vietnam War. Following his military career, John devoted nearly three decades to helping injured workers return to work after injury. His compassion, strength, and support shaped both Darlene's life and the messages in her writing.
After John's passing, Darlene turned to writing as a way to process her grief, preserve their love story, and offer comfort to others facing the loss of a spouse. Through Resilient Heartbeats, she shares an honest and compassionate journey through love, loss, healing, and resilience. The book offers encouragement to widows and widowers from all walks of life while also providing practical guidance for military spouses and military widows navigating survivor benefits, military honors, changing identities, and life after the loss of a veteran.
Drawing from her personal experience, professional background, and deep belief that love continues beyond loss, Darlene hopes to help grieving spouses feel understood, supported, and less alone. Her message is simple: grief is a reflection of love, healing takes time, and it is possible to move forward while still honoring the person who will always hold a place in your heart.
