Author Bio
Dominick has spent his career devoted to animals, working in the zoo and animal-care profession and building a life shaped by the remarkable relationships between people and animals. But some of the most important lessons animals have taught him have happened far from his professional life.
A lifelong animal lover and passionate advocate for rescue and adoption, Dominick has shared his home and heart with an assortment of unforgettable four-legged personalities. Among them was Romeo, a fifteen-year-old senior rescue who entered his life in 2023 through Muttville Senior Dog Rescue in San Francisco.
What Dominick expected to be an opportunity to give an elderly dog a loving home became something much bigger. For three years, Romeo brought laughter, companionship, healing, and a healthy amount of chaos into his life, ultimately inspiring his first book, Romeo Has Entered the Building: Three Years with the Oldest Puppy I Ever Knew.
Dominick writes about animals with the perspective of someone who has spent a career caring for them, but also as someone who understands how profoundly they can care for us.
His work celebrates senior animals, second chances, the humor hidden in everyday life, and the idea that the value of a relationship isn't measured by how long it lasts.
When he's not writing, Dominick continues his work with animals, spends an unreasonable amount of time surrounded by dogs, enjoys concerts and good food, and remains firmly convinced that life is better with a little dog hair on your clothes.
Romeo Has Entered the Building is his first book.
And if Romeo taught him anything, it's this: never underestimate an old dog. 🐾
