Maxine King

When Maxine was very young, her dad would tell her funny stories about a mouse, she has very happy memories of those story times. Years later, when she became a grandmother, a little mouse named Ted began appearing in the stories she told her grandsons. They began as stories to make them laugh if they were sad when their parents went out or if they were nervous or excited about something happening in their lives; new school, travels, bullying, moving and day to day situations like getting lost at Costco or losing something important at the dump! Soon, "Tell us a Ted story!" became a family tradition. As the boys grew, their everyday adventures and challenges found their way into his stories and they began telling their own Ted stories and contributing art work.

Maxine taught Early Childhood Education as a postsecondary faculty member for 30 years and holds a Master’s degree. She brings that experience, along with her understanding of children, humour and emotional intelligence, to Ted’s adventures. Ted’s New Roommates is the first book in a series and the beginning of sharing Ted with a new generation of children and families.
