Matthew James McDermott

Matthew James McDermott is an instrument-rated private pilot, FAA-certificated Advanced Ground Instructor and Instrument Ground Instructor, and aviation writer based in Rochester, New York. His interests include glass-cockpit operations, automation management, human factors, and the development of sound operational judgment.

The son of a pilot, Matthew grew up around airplanes and airports. He remains active in aviation through his local Experimental Aircraft Association chapter and Civil Air Patrol, and is a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.

*Managing Automation* is his first published book. Despite his interest in advanced avionics, given the choice of any airplane to fly, he would probably choose a Beechcraft Model 17 Staggerwing.
