AMIT BANERJEE

Amit Banerjee is a Chartered Accountant whose fiction grows out of contemporary Kolkata and West Bengal. He is the author of The Great Para Elections, One Vote Short, And The Tears Run Dry, and As the Graffiti on the Walls Fades. He writes as an observer of the city's moral and political landscape — its ward committees and polling booths, its kitchens and drawing rooms, the places where ordinary people brush against power.

His novels follow characters who are neither heroes nor villains: local party workers, schoolteachers, retired clerks, young men without prospects. The comedy and the sadness in his work arise from the same source — the gap between how people imagine themselves and what the world actually allows.
