Hugo Badger

Hugo has been crafting books since age nine, when he first discovered the magic of making his classmates laugh with hand-drawn characters. While he spent years working as an artist in the North American animation and film industry, his true passion remains in his sketchbook. He realized he treasured reading his work and seeing kids’ reactions far more than seeing his name in big movie credits.

Drawing on his own experience adapting to new environments, Hugo creates illustrated chapter books for sensitive, guarded kids learning to navigate big feelings. Now based in British Columbia, he pairs expressive ink art with accessible stories for emerging readers. When summer arrives, you’ll find him exploring local trails and drawing the funny animals you’ll meet in his book.
