Mr Giovanni Calandro

Giovanni ‘Nanni’ Calandro is a secondary school teacher based in Adelaide, South Australia. He is a qualified Italian, Music, and TESOL teacher who has taught in primary, middle, and secondary schools across Victoria and South Australia, where he has also served as Head of Languages. He holds a Master of Teaching specialising in Music and TESOL and is currently pursuing further studies in Italian Language and Literature. Before entering the classroom, Giovanni worked as a performer with a school incursions provider and as a language assistant. He has collaborated with numerous Italian cultural institutions throughout Australia, delivered professional development workshops for language teachers, and developed curriculum resources aligned with the Extensive Processing Instruction (EPI) approach. A native speaker of Italian, he is fluent in English and is currently developing his proficiency in Spanish and French. Giovanni is a certified EPI teacher with distinction and has been involved with the Italian Sentence Builders Trilogy since its inception, contributing as an editor, proofreader, and co-author. He is also the creator and producer of the Once Upon a Time in Italy series, a collection of live theatre productions celebrating iconic Italian film soundtracks. Now in its eleventh year, the series has become a unique platform for bringing Italian cinema, music, and culture to Australian audiences.
