Tim grew up on a ranch in Kansas and earned a B.S. (sociology) and an M.S. (family/human development) from Kansas State University.
He then taught two years at NW Missouri State University. Next was six years of social work in and near Kansas City, Missouri. After completing another graduate degree at the University of Missouri in K. C. (counseling psychology), he returned to Kansas to do clinical work for three decades in community mental health centers as a licensed psychotherapist, plus two years as an alcohol/drug counselor and program manager. Tim is also a certified EMDR trauma therapist.
Tim has made many professional presentations on psychotherapy, communication, and parenting with the highlights being “Parenting in the 21st Century,” at the Satir World Conference 2010 in Hong Kong, PRC, as well as “Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Anxiety, Depression, and Co-dependence,” and many others.
After retirement, Tim obtained the Doctor of Ministry at Central Seminary. He and Matthew Sturtevant combined their dissertations into their book, "From Distrust to Trust."
Tim's hobbies are travel, playing with grandchildren, and writing a free blog as "timothybonner9" on Medium.
