Janet E. Blackwood

Janet Elaine Blackwood was born and raised in the beautiful Caribbean island of Jamaica, a place whose culture, beauty, and people greatly influenced her life, perspective, and her writing. Her first journey into the world of work began in journalism, a profession that reflected a lifelong love for reading, writing, curiosity, and exploring the world around. From childhood, literature was never a burden but a source of joy, imagination, and discovery. The transition from a young girl with a passion for books to a writer was therefore a natural progression.

For decades, she wrote, drawing inspiration from life in all its forms, the beautiful moments, the difficult seasons, the joys, the sorrows, simple beauty and the countless experiences that shape the human journey.

The legal profession later became an important part of her path, leading her to become an Attorney-at-Law. Although this career demanded much of her time and dedication, it never extinguished the flame inside her, the yearning to write. The desire to share the reflections of her life’s

journey remained. the desire to give voice to thoughts, emotions, and experiences waiting to find expression on paper.

This collection of poems begins and ends with God, God the Creator, God the Father, the sustainer of all that is good in life. Through these poems, she explores love, faith, hope, pain, human desires, relationships, and the breathtaking beauty of nature. The love and support of family and cherished friendships have been a constant source of strength, helping her navigate the changing seasons of life.

Her dream as a poet is that these poems will echo in the hearts of those who take the time to journey through the pages of this book. May readers find comfort in the words, connect with the emotions expressed, appreciate the images created, and discover the joy, beauty, hope, peace and meaning woven throughout each poem.

When not occupied in work as an Attorney-at-Law, the poet finds joy in spending time with family and friends and sharing fellowship with her church community. Janet also enjoys travelling across the country, chasing and recording the beauty of sunrises and sunsets, walking along new beaches, discovering the treasures found as the water and sand wash over and between her toes, enjoying life as she continues to embrace the gift of life and her prayer to Hold Back the Sunset.
