Anthony Guarino

Anthony Guarino, MD, is a physician specializing in interventional pain management with more than 25 years of experience helping patients manage chronic pain, restore function, and improve their quality of life.

Dr. Guarino attended Yale University and earned his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He completed his residency in anesthesiology and fellowship training in pain management at Johns Hopkins. He subsequently spent more than 20 years at Washington University in St. Louis, including serving as Director of Pain Management at Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital. He has spent the past several years in private and community-based clinical practice.

Throughout his career, Dr. Guarino has been committed to making complicated medical information understandable and useful to patients. His writing reflects the same philosophy he brings to clinical practice: helping people understand the source of their pain, evaluate their treatment options, ask better questions, and make informed decisions about their care.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Guarino has more than 25 years of experience in medical-legal consulting, working with both plaintiff and defense attorneys on matters involving pain management, standards of care, causation, complications, and treatment. He particularly enjoys helping attorneys and other professionals understand complex medical issues in clear, practical terms.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Guarino is active in the Catholic Church, enjoys golf and traveling, and values time with his wife, adult children, and family. He lives in the St. Louis area.
