ALM Projects, founded by Luis Malave, is a community-focused organization dedicated to creating opportunities, empowering individuals, amplifying voices, and building stronger communities. Through advocacy, education, writing, civic engagement, and community programming, ALM Projects works to remind people that their stories matter and that everyone deserves an opportunity to be heard, supported, and empowered.

HAT Force: Advocacy for Housing and Homelessness Prevention

One of the important areas of ALM Projects' community work is its involvement with the, Homeless Advisory Task Force (HAT Force).

HAT Force brings people together to address homelessness and housing instability while making sure that the voices of people experiencing homelessness are included in conversations about solutions. ALM Projects supports the belief that homelessness is not simply an individual problem, it is a community issue that requires compassion, collaboration, advocacy, and action.

Through HAT Force, ALM Projects supports community conversations, outreach, events, advocacy efforts, and initiatives focused on homelessness prevention and connecting people with resources and opportunities.

ALM Projects believes that people should not have to become homeless before receiving help. Prevention, education, early intervention, and access to resources are essential parts of creating stronger communities.

The work also emphasizes the importance of bringing together residents, advocates, elected officials, community organizations, and people with lived experience to create meaningful solutions.

Write to Rise: Turning Stories Into Strength

Another major part of ALM Projects is, Write to Rise, a writing and empowerment workshop created to encourage people to discover the power of their own stories.

Write to Rise is more than a writing class. It is a space where participants can learn, create, reflect, and find their voice.

The program encourages people to write about their experiences, dreams, challenges, accomplishments, and hopes for the future. Participants are reminded that they do not need to be professional writers to have a story worth telling.

Through writing, ALM Projects encourages people to turn experiences into lessons, pain into purpose, and ideas into possibilities.

Write to Rise also promotes the importance of reading and developing a consistent writing practice. Participants are encouraged to make reading and writing part of their everyday lives while building confidence in their ability to express themselves.

For Luis Malave, writing is not simply about putting words on paper. Writing is a form of empowerment.
