Christopher Whittaker was born in Derry, Northern Ireland, and migrated to Australia with his family in 1961. Raised in Canberra, he developed a lifelong fascination with history, particularly military history, encouraged by dedicated teachers and frequent visits to the Australian War Memorial.
Chris later served in the Australian Army Reserve and now works in the disability sector. His writing looks beyond accepted historical narratives to explore the perspectives, motives and influences that shape events. He believes that while history may be written by the victors, the truth is often far more complex.
Chris lives in Ellenbrook, Western Australia, with his wife, Dianne, and their miniature poodle, Molly. They have five adult children—Aaron-Lee, Nathan, Nerida, Wayne and Narelle—three children-in-law, Saori, Veronica and Mo, and eleven grandchildren: Rebecca, Natsuki, Ayumi, Takumi, Yuichi, Amelia, Theo, Joshua, Layla, Amira and Erin.
