Inside the classrooms of boarding schools, gliding with a flashlight at midnight over the reefs of Tahiti, or lying on a psychoanalyst's couch in New York—NOT IN THIS WORLD was a story tapping its feet, waiting for its author.
Jane Scott Stuart was born in 1937 in Louisville, Kentucky, and spent the first seven years of her life in her grandmother's kitchen in Horse Cave, Kentucky. She learned to read at the age of three and has had her head in a book ever since. Her life and learning have taken her across Sweden, Canada, New York, Papeete (Tahiti), London, Provence (France), and Moray (Scotland).
Educated in Sweden and Canada, Jane later attended Holton-Arms School in Washington, D.C., Hollins University in Virginia, and McGill University in Montreal. It was at McGill where she met the younger son of a Scottish Earl—now her literary critic, beloved companion, and husband.
Today, the author divides her time between Scotland and France.
