DG Grant

Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Douglas Grant now lives in Fargo, North Dakota. Growing up his parents encouraged him to be curious about everything and not to shy away from doing something new. He worked on the railroad, drove truck, managed gas stations, worked in sales, and was a parish pastor. After retiring, he got a pilot’s license (as well as a repairman’s certificate to work on his plane), learned Python programming, and then learned to write fiction. Throughout his life, he has had a desire to write fiction. When he was in seventh grade, his English had the class write a story. That became the only occasion where he wanted more time to finish, not because he had procrastinated, but because he wanted to know what happened to his characters. That remains true.

The journey to writing fiction was unusual. Starting out to write the history of his father’s family (which was rather unique) he quickly understood that although he knew of many of the family’s seminal events, to write about it he would need to fill in the things he didn’t know. That led to taking fiction courses and a great deal of study time.

In that process, the assignments and the notes he jotted down that appealed to him most were those that ended up providing several core scenes for stories, most of which fell into the thriller genre. From those came the desire to find out what the characters were going to do.

Though he has done many things in his life, becoming an independent author is a recent adventure, and the thriller genre is a surprise—even to him. Enjoy!
