Dr. Pam Benoit is an author, educator, and former senior university leader who brings an evidence-based—and deeply personal—perspective to the art of retiring well. She earned her PhD in Communication and spent more than 25 years in higher education.
Before retiring, Dr. Benoit served as Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Her career was defined by a commitment to practical knowledge, thoughtful leadership, and data-informed decision-making. She is the author or co-author of Telling the Success Story, Persuasive Messages: The Process of Influence, and Readings in Argumentation, as well as numerous academic articles. Her academic writing explored social identities and interpersonal relationships, offering valuable insights into the retirement transition.
After twice “retiring” only to begin another full-time role, Dr. Benoit was determined to make her latest transition count. She immersed herself in retirement research, interviewed retirees, and explored the questions that arise when a demanding career ends: How do we let go of work, rediscover purpose, and build a new chapter that feels both meaningful and joyful?
Her upcoming book on retirement translates research and lived experience into accessible guidance for readers navigating life after work). With warmth, curiosity, and candor, Dr. Benoit shares practical insights alongside stories from her own journey, including the adventures inspired by a 150-item retirement bucket list. Her goal is simple: to help others approach retirement with greater reflection, confidence, and intention.
Pam is happily retired, teaching and creating art, baking, gardening, volunteering, travelling, reading, and writing.
