dr. iko

I trained as a pediatrician in Kazakhstan and spent more than five years working in pediatric emergency medicine. I cared for children with everything from common childhood illnesses to life-threatening emergencies—but some of the most worried parents I met had healthy babies who simply would not stop crying.

Most importantly, I’m a mother of two boys, now teenagers. When my first son was a newborn, I was a young medical student who repeatedly took my own crying baby to the emergency room. Even with medical training, I felt exhausted, frightened, and unsure of what to do. That experience stayed with me and eventually inspired me to write *Why Babies Cry*.

After moving to the United States in 2018, I began working toward U.S. medical licensure while continuing to share practical, evidence-based health education for parents.

I know what keeps parents awake at 2 a.m.—and how confusing online advice can be. My goal is to help you understand what is normal, recognize when your baby needs medical care, and feel supported without fear or judgment.
