Bilal A. Khan

Bilal A. Khan is Professor of Data Science at Lehigh University, where he holds appointments in the College of Health and the Department of Computer Science and directs the Health Data Warehouse. He teaches graduate courses in prompt engineering and data science, and his books about artificial intelligence grew out of those classrooms.

He comes to the subject from both sides. He was trained to build the technology — a Ph.D. in mathematics from the City University of New York, a master's in computer science from Johns Hopkins, a bachelor's from MIT, and four years as a research scientist at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory — and he has spent the decades since studying what it does to people, in nearly 150 peer-reviewed papers applying network and data science to public health, addiction, HIV prevention, and criminal justice, supported by the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, and the National Institute of Justice. Before Lehigh he was the Happold Professor of Computer Science and Sociology at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, and Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York.
