Most people who use mathematics were never shown what it was for. You can differentiate a polynomial and invert a matrix, and still not know that those are the same tools that train a neural network or land a spacecraft on Mars. I write the books that close that gap.

I am an Associate Professor in the School of Computer Science at University College Dublin. Maths for Quantum Computing and Maths for AI, the first two volumes of my Mathematics for Everything series, rebuild the linear algebra, calculus and probability behind modern computing for readers who can code but have not thought seriously about mathematics in years. Every idea is taught in runnable Python first, then tied back to the model or algorithm it explains. Six Ideas That Run the World is for students, teachers and parents: it derives the rocket equation, gradient descent, GPS and public-key cryptography in full, using only the mathematics a strong sixteen-to-eighteen-year-old already has. Where the research runs past what school maths can reach, I say so and name what you would learn next.

I hold a BE from Jadavpur University, an MTech from IIT Kharagpur and a PhD from the University of California, Davis. I have published more than 100 journal articles, conference papers and book chapters on networks, optimisation, machine learning and quantum communication, and I am a Senior Member of the IEEE.
