Marcus Greatheart

Marcus Greatheart, MD, MSW, is a family physician, social worker, author, and educator whose work focuses on homelessness, substance use, harm reduction, and the people who provide care in difficult systems. He has worked in shelters, hospitals, outreach programs, street-based care, and community settings, alongside people navigating addiction, homelessness, and complex health and social systems.

He is the author of The Field Guide to Frontline Care, a practical resource for shelter staff, outreach workers, peer workers, nurses, social workers, paramedics, and others doing frontline work. His writing and teaching explore how workers can provide compassionate, effective care while navigating the constraints of the systems around them.

Marcus lives and works on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.
