Poppy Drakaina

I’m Poppy Drakaina, creator of the Winston Universe and the woman responsible for giving an ancient vampire blunt fangs, four pale-blue fairy wings and a life that somehow becomes more humiliating with every passing century.

My books begin with Winston the Third, a six-hundred-year-old vampire living in Camden who would quite like everyone to leave him alone. Unfortunately, murder, family secrets, supernatural disasters and his own spectacular design faults keep getting in the way.

I write dark comedy and urban fantasy filled with monsters, mysteries, dysfunctional immortals and characters who keep stumbling into danger despite having plenty of opportunities to walk in the opposite direction.

The Winston Universe is strange, grimy, funny and occasionally bloody. Nobody is perfect, ancient creatures behave like complete idiots and even the most terrifying supernatural threat can be made considerably worse by poor planning and one badly timed argument.

When I’m not writing, I’m usually creating new creatures, uncovering unpleasant secrets or finding inventive ways to ruin Winston’s evening.

He complains about it.

I do it anyway.
