Miro Griffiths

Miro Griffiths is an Associate Professor of Social Policy and Disability Studies at the University of Leeds, where he is Director of the Centre for Disability Studies. His research explores disability politics, activism, social policy, and the continuing struggle for equality, autonomy, and collective liberation.

Miro has worked with disabled people’s organisations, governments, and international institutions across the United Kingdom and Europe. He has advised the UK and Welsh governments, the European Commission, the Equality and Human Rights Commission and the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe, among others. His work brings academic analysis into dialogue with the knowledge and experience produced through disabled people’s movements.

A disabled activist and scholar, Miro has contributed to public debates on independent living philosophy, welfare reform, human rights, political participation, and assisted dying. He is particularly interested in how social and political institutions shape whose lives, voices, and forms of knowledge are valued.

He lives on the Wirral, near Liverpool (UK), with his partner and their golden retriever.
