Author Biography
Douglas P. Johnson is an attorney, former mayor, and Christian teacher with more than four decades of professional legal and public service experience. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and Speech Communication from the University of Rhode
Island and a Juris Doctorate from Nova University’s Shepard Broad College of Law. He is married to Gilda F. Johnson and a Father of Six.
Johnson practiced law privately from 1985 to 2015 and is a member of the Florida Bar, Rhode Island Bar, the Federal Trial Bar, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. From 1992 to 1996, he served as Councilman and Mayor of Oakland Park, Florida, gaining firsthand experience in civil authority, governance, and public accountability.
His Christian formation includes completion of the Perspective Study Program in Pasadena, California, focused on God’s global evangelistic mission, and ongoing theological education at Rhode Island Baptist Seminary. He has also served in leadership with the Christian
Motorcycle Association, including as past Chapter President of Kingdom Kruzers in East Providence, Rhode Island. He was a member of the Mission Committee at Good News Bible Chapel in
Attleboro, Massachusetts. He was the former Church
Parliamentarian at Woodlawn Baptist Church in Pawtucket, Rhode
Island. He currently attends Rhode Island Baptist Temple at
Johnston, Rhode Island. He is the founder of DP Johnson Ministries.
Johnson writes from the perspective of one who has witnessed both the promise and limits of law, power, and politics—and who is convinced that lasting moral renewal comes not through coercion, but through faithful obedience to the Gospel. He is married to his wife Gilda and is the father of six.
