Jonathan Allin

Jonathan Allin is a yoga teacher, writer, and artist, whose work explores what it means to live with presence in an age built for distraction. He is the author of Focused Fire: The Five-Fires Method to Build Lasting Focus, published through his imprint, Iron Lotus Publishing, and based in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Jonathan's relationship with focus began long before he had a name for it. As a teenager, hours spent immersed in playing guitar became his first encounter with what he would later recognize as meditation - a state where the world fell away and only the music remained. That early experience of total absorption planted a seed that would not fully take root until decades later, when illness, creative restlessness, and the accumulating noise of modern life demanded that he learn to live what he had only understood in theory.

Yoga has been the constant thread running through Jonathan's life since childhood, passed down from his mother, a longtime yoga teacher who modeled grounded presence more than she ever preached it. As she moved through the late stages of Alzheimer's, Jonathan witnessed a moment that would reshape the direction of his life: taken to teach one final class, she stepped onto the mat and became herself again, fully present, fully alive. That moment made clear that the practice she had given him was his to carry forward.

In March 2018, a minor heart attack followed by a stroke tested everything Jonathan had built. He credits the tools already in place, breathwork, physical practice, and years of meditation, with carrying him through recovery and reinforcing a definition of health that extends well beyond exercise alone. The experience deepened his conviction that the tools for resilience have to be in place before a crisis arrives, not assembled after.

Going into 2025, Jonathan made a deliberate choice to stop accumulating and start subtracting, letting go of habits, pursuits, and commitments that no longer served him. Writing Focused Fire became the focus that emerged from that clearing, a project born not from a desire to prove expertise, but from a genuine need to reclaim his own attention and share what he learned along the way.

Jonathan writes as a fellow traveler rather than a guru, drawing on decades of yoga instruction, personal setbacks, and a long-running curiosity about why the mind wanders and how it finds its way back. His work blends practical strategy with lived experience, aiming to help readers rebuild focus not through force, but through the simple, repeatable act of returning to what matters.

He continues to teach yoga, travel, write, and create from Florida, where his days begin with breath and coffee before the world makes its claims.
