Greg Donahue

Greg Donahue was raised in the small town of Westerly, Rhode Island, where he graduated with honors from Westerly High School in 1972, and as a result of his passion for sports, he was selected to First Team All-South County in baseball and basketball. A standout athlete, he was voted “Most Athletic” and “Wittiest” by his classmates. After completing one semester at Rhode Island College and being awarded a scholarship to return, he decided to take his talent to the Fort Lauderdale Baseball School, where he competed in the prestigious National Baseball Congress Tournament and came within a single phone call of signing with the New York Yankees—his chance to realize the dream he had since childhood.

But at just twenty-one years old, Greg’s promising baseball career took a devastating turn when he was diagnosed with cancer. In an instant, his promising baseball career came to an abrupt end and was replaced by a far more daunting challenge: the fight for his life. Drawing on the same discipline, resilience, and determination that defined him as an athlete, he overcame the illness and went on to build a life grounded in purpose and perseverance—ultimately inspiring him to share his story. I Can Do This: From a Childhood Dream to a Fight for Survival (Gatekeeper Press) is his debut memoir.

Following a distinguished thirty-seven-year career in federal public service, Greg channels his experience and energy into advocacy by promoting cancer education and awareness. Greg's lifetime goal is to inspire others facing life's toughest battles.
