Juan Hernandez

Juan Pablo “JP” Hernandez is a Principal Security Assurance Engineer Lead specializing in AI Safety and Security. He leads a security architecture function supporting Microsoft 365 and Azure, where he partners with product, platform, and security leaders to make security a design input rather than a release gate.

His work focuses on helping engineering teams move quickly without cutting corners, especially in the development of AI and Copilot technologies. Over the past few years, JP has helped shape security and safety guidance used by product teams across Microsoft, contributed to red-team efforts that identify risks before products reach customers, and filed a patent application for threat risk pattern analysis in security management systems.

JP leads a team of security architects and works across a broader network of contributors, partners, and senior leaders to bring structure, clarity, and direction to complex security challenges. He is especially interested in turning recurring security signals into scalable guidance, detection, and decision-making capabilities.

As a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, JP combines security expertise with process improvement to make security work faster, more consistent, and easier for engineering teams to adopt. He is motivated by work that strengthens customer trust, develops strong leaders, and helps organizations innovate securely.

He is the co-author of Building Safer Technology: A Field Guide to Failing Well, a practical guide to treating safety engineering as a continuous part of software design.
