Jan Stolker is a Dutch economist and Director of Leadership & Governance at EIBE, Erasmus University.
Over a four-decade career, his work has focused on what actually happens in boardrooms — the behavioral dynamics and human judgment that shape governance outcomes more than formal structures do.
This underpins his 2026 book, Behavioral Corporate Governance in Practice, the first international textbook on governance written from a behavioral perspective.
In 2023, he published the Dutch non-executive director's manual: Het Spel in de Boardroom, een introductie in behavioral governance.
After studying economics and public finance at Erasmus University, he began his career in international finance at AMRO Bank in Amsterdam and New York, later founding ABN AMRO Capital, the bank's global private equity arm.
Since 2002, Jan has worked as an independent advisor in corporate restructuring and governance, holding non-executive directorships at a wide range of organizations internationally.
In 2009, he founded the Erasmus Governance Institute, the university's executive education and research center, which he led until his retirement in 2024.
He is an independent board advisor and international lecturer on corporate governance and board leadership.
