Ho, Hang Kei

Dr Hang Kei Ho is an interdisciplinary scholar whose work explores how culture, business, geopolitics, and social change shape global markets and everyday life. He holds a PhD from University College London, an MBA, and three additional master's degrees, with qualifications spanning geography, digital humanities, electronic engineering, and luxury brand management.

In Finland, he is a Visiting Professor in the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Helsinki and holds the Title of Docent in Sociology in the Faculty of Social Sciences. He is also affiliated with the Helsinki Institute of Sustainability Science (HELSUS) and the Helsinki Institute of Urban and Regional Studies (Urbaria). In addition, he is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Anthropology at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

His international academic career has included appointments at leading universities in Finland, Hong Kong, the Netherlands, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. He has taught across a diverse range of subjects, including anthropology, business management, Chinese studies, development studies, economic geography, geopolitics, intercultural communications, public health, sociology, and urban studies. Before entering academia, he worked in real-estate consultancy, education outreach, IT, and engineering.

He is the author of How Hong Kong Transformed the Global Wine Trade: Culture, Geopolitics, and Taste and co-editor of Drinks in Vogue: Exploring the Changing Worlds of Fashions and Beverages. He has been featured as an expert by international media including Die Welt, The Guardian, Helsingin Sanomat, The Local, Luxemburger Wort, Sveriges Radio, and Yle.

Drawing on his broad academic and professional experience, Dr Ho combines extensive research with compelling storytelling to uncover the people, ideas, cultural values, and geopolitical forces shaping wine, luxury consumption, fashion, property markets, housing segregation, inequality, and the lives of the super-rich. Through these subjects, his writing offers fresh insight into global change and the evolving relationship between East Asia and the wider world.
