Nicky Cooper is a registered nurse, educator, therapist, and writer based in Nelson, Aotearoa New Zealand.
For nearly forty years she has worked alongside people during life's most significant moments, from its beginning to its end, in hospitals, homes, communities, and classrooms. Her career has spanned child and family health, public health, primary care, palliative care, critical care, paramedicine, mental health, and nursing education, giving her a unique perspective on what shapes us across a lifetime.
Holding a Master of Nursing, alongside training in attachment, nervous system regulation, Clinical Hypnotherapy, Havening Techniques®, and Circle of Security™. Nicky brings together clinical knowledge with the deeply human experience of being alive. She is known for translating complex ideas about stress, trauma, relationships, and emotional wellbeing into language that feels accessible, practical, and deeply compassionate.
Her writing sits where the science, stories, and lived experience's meet. Drawing on decades of working alongside people at their most vulnerable, she writes about grief, parenting, resilience, identity, and the invisible load so many people carry, inviting readers to slow down, get curious, and recognise themselves with greater kindness.
The 7-Day Sabbatical is her first solo book.
When she isn't teaching, writing or working with clients, you'll usually find her walking her dog, noticing all the ordinary moments that so often become the beginning of her next story.
