T. S. Cobb

For over two decades I was paid to identify and eliminate uncertainty. A few years ago, I left the world of finance to write. But the uncertainty stayed with me.

In addition to running a hedge fund, I have started a magazine that failed, owned part of a whiskey company and an olive farm in Provence, and written screenplays no one wanted to make. I played tennis until my knee blew out. I do yoga. I walk, cycle, meditate, and take out the rubbish.

I was born in Memphis. I studied history and theology. I have lived in Georgia, Oregon, North Carolina, London, Lourmarin, and now, in a small town in Central Virginia.

My writing circles one problem that took years to discover. I spent my career gathering enough evidence to allow myself to act. That skill made me a decent investor, but distorted everything else. So I write about moving through life without proof. And what happens after. For What It's Worth is the longer version of that story — part memoir, part reflection.

Occasionally, I have a decent idea. I publish new essays every few weeks on my website. You'll find it under my name.
