Mike Dorcas

Michael E. Dorcas, Ph.D., is a biologist, author, and science communicator whose work focuses on reptiles, amphibians, wildlife ecology, and conservation. A former endowed professor of biology at Davidson College, he has published more than 140 peer-reviewed scientific papers, contributed to numerous book chapters, and authored or coauthored eight scholarly and natural-history books. His research has examined topics ranging from snake ecology and amphibian conservation to the ecological effects of invasive Burmese pythons in the Florida Everglades.

Dorcas’s books include *Snakes of the Southeast*, *Frogs and Toads of the Southeast*, *Invasive Pythons in the United States*, and *Frogs: The Animal Answer Guide*. He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and has spent much of his career making scientific information accessible to researchers, students, naturalists, and the public. He now works through Tantilla Consulting as a scientific writer, editor, and research consultant, while also pursuing wildlife art through Tantilla Art.
