I am a professor in Ecosystem and Public Health, based at the University of Calgary, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. I have a degree in Veterinary Science and a PhD from Massey University, New Zealand, and hold a Diploma in Public Policy from Victoria University, School of Government. My current research interests include conservation medicine, infectious diseases, disease ecology, veterinary public health and international development. I enjoy leading transdisciplinary research teams and working with international colleagues to develop and implement sustainable livestock development programs. I was an invited member of the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) expert committee for training veterinary paraprofessionals based on my experience in international development projects and veterinary diagnostics. I have had the privilege of contributing to a wide range animal health and wildlife conservation projects alongside colleagues based in government agencies, academia and communities in the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Canada, India and Bhutan (South Asia). I am a member of the editorial board of the Centre for Agriculture and Biosciences International (CABI) One Health resources and I have published a wide range of peer reviewed papers, government reports, and general interest articles. My most recent book is based on 20 years of experience working with, and travelling alongside, Bhutanese colleagues and focuses on the development of Agriculture and Regional Food in Bhutan. I love to travel, I am a keen photographer and I enjoy working alongside colleagues and friends from across the world.
