Stephen Bishop Seely

Stephen Bishop Seely is a New York City-based actor, writer, director, singer, and playwright, who has spent more than two decades inhabiting other people's lives for a living and wondering about all the ones he didn't get to live.

Originally from Tonganoxie, Kansas, Seely earned his MFA in Acting before building a career that moves fluidly between stage, screen, and page. As a playwright and screenwriter, he has written full-length plays, television pilots, short films, and screenplays marked by sharp humor and a fascination with identity and transformation. His theatrical work has been developed and produced in a range of settings, and he has taught acting, writing, and musical theatre to students building their own creative lives.

That same fascination drives his book, 1,000 Roles Unseen, a visual journey through one thousand AI-enhanced character portraits, each one Seely cast as a role he auditioned for, dreamed of, or simply imagined and never got the chance to play. As an actor, he's closely familiar with rejection, near-misses, and the parts that almost were. The book turns a career's worth of "what ifs" into something that you can hold in your hands. It is part memoir, part visual art, and it argues that every person contains far more lives than the one they're living.

Seely also hosts the podcast On the Cusp of an Epiphany, where he digs into the moments, big and small, that quietly change how we see ourselves.
