Elven King

Elven King writes fantasy in a range of registers, from the grim to the tender.

His worlds tend to begin with a single unsettling idea and follow it all the way down: a sky that is really a lid, an orchard where luck can be grafted onto a living branch, a lighthouse that holds back a rising sea with a song. Whatever the mood, the magic keeps its rules, the people come in shades of grey rather than black and white, and the endings are earned rather than handed out.

The books move from grimdark epic to literary fantasy, from gothic court romance to grounded folk-magic and slow-burn fae bargains, in a plain, lyrical voice that carries from the largest saga to the smallest, quietest tale.

There is more than one complete saga among them, including the four-book series The Broken Vault, along with a number of standalone novels. A reader can begin anywhere.
