Robert Smith

A native of Spartanburg, South Carolina, Robert O. Smith brings the same discipline to his writing that he has brought to his classrooms for over twenty years. Known for his dry wit and high expectations, he is a teacher by day and a novelist by design.

Judah County, his debut novel, emerged from a vivid, violent dream of horses, explosions, and revenge. Written to the relentless cadence of songs like “House of the Rising Sun” and “Hell’s Bells,” the book explores the dark intersection of Southern Gothic tension and frontier brutality.

Robert remains a full-time educator in Spartanburg, where he lives with his wife, Laura, and their dog, Mack. He fuels his late-night writing sessions with too much soda and a carefully curated sonic landscape that serves as the blueprint for his storytelling.
