Jeanne Burth

Jeanne Hager Burth, EdD is a retired Associate Professor of Teacher Education from the University of Pittsburgh with a distinguished career in education. She served as an elementary school principal and taught in public schools across elementary and middle grades, specializing in Special Education, Elementary Education, and Gifted Support. Dr. Burth has published extensively on topics including education for students with disabilities, high-quality professional development, and innovative curriculum through Open Educational Resources. She is the author of Transitioning from School to Adulthood: Practical Activities for Youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Other Disabilities.

Dr. Burth has published several children’s books and often writes about topics that are sensitive and can be used as discussion starters for difficult conversations with children. For example, It Makes Me Feel Good teaches about the first day of school anxiety and how being yourself is the best way to be. Gramps and Me shares a heartwarming visit to an assistive-living facility, while Hello, Every Body! talks of visiting a graveyard and caring for our loved ones as we hold them in our hearts. Other titles include I Go High (working toward goals), The Awakening (hibernating animals), I Married a Donkey (pretend), The Almost Colors (we are all needed), The Tooth Fairy’s Castle (how she came to be), and Like Us, Only Different (acceptance of all).
